The Joseph Mattey House: A Historic Destination
The Joseph Mattey House is an 1892 Queen Anne Victorian on the National Historic Register and was built by Joseph Mattey, an orphan from Dr Barnado’s Home in England. A butcher by trade, he brought in Hereford cows to improve the meat quality and became a successful local businessman.
His second wife survived him and on her death the residue of the estate was sent back to the orphanage in England.
The house has gone through several owners, at one time being a strawberry farm, and has been a B&B since the mid-1980s. Ownership has come full circle as the present owners are also British and have run the B&B since 1993 after living in Germany, Italy and across the USA. On 10 acres, nestled behind the vineyard and surrounded by stately cedars, the inn offers a peaceful, secluded setting in the heart of Oregon wine country. The inn is ideally situated for all local wineries, restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, Evergreen Aviation Museum, home of the Spruce Goose, and trips to the coast and mountains.
The B&B is air-conditioned and has 4 bedrooms all with private bathrooms.
